'It's gratifying and very exciting to see how fashionable indoor plants have become and I'm thrilled that visitors to the show will have the opportunity to experience exciting ways of using plants within the home to maximum stylish effect. Our exhibit will also show how much plants can improve the health and wellbeing of the occupants of home or office, and this is a very important part of our message.'

Ian Drummond, Creative Director of Indoor Garden Design

'At IKEA, we believe that you don't need a lot of time, money or space to furnish your home with plants. With trends in urbanisation and small space living, not everyone has access to an outdoor space and that's why we're encouraging people to grow their own plants at home. From our understanding of life at home, we know that nature indoors can provide a sense of calmness, tranquillity and improve wellbeing too.'

The health benefits of plants in the home

There is a science behind our love of plants – they work on a deeply psychological level – biophilia is the concept that humans have an innate connection with nature. So by incorporating natural elements into the human environment brings significant benefits, namely improvements in wellbeing, health and productivity.

Plants work on our physical health by producing oxygen while filtering pollution and absorbing dust to clean the air we breathe.

Plants are now regarded as so much more than decorative embellishments. They have been proven time and time again to reduce stress, improve morale and significantly contribute to a happy, healthy working environment.
